The Anchor Hotel

Steeped in heritage, the warm and inviting Anchor Hotel has overlooked Church Square in the beautiful village of Shepperton for over 400 years. The countryside of Shepperton is located near the River Thames, no more than 18 miles (30 km) south-west of London. The guesthouse is based in a tranquil residential region, close to the well known Shepperton Studios. During its wealthy and showy heritage, the guesthouse has played landlord to some well known clients. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor’s romance blossomed here whilst they were filming at Shepperton.

In the eighteenth century, when the guesthouse was just an inn, it was a regular haunt for the notorious highwayman, Dick Turpin. This may explain a pistol found hidden in the rafters, bearing the chilling inscription ‘Dick's Friend'. Today, the guesthouse combines period spell with contemporary comforts. There are 29 en apartment suites and the hotel proposes snack and dinner.
